Another fail wooh! :dummy: This story I found in one of my favorite books “World War II: Extraordinary Facts and Stories” by Armchair Reader. It is very brief yet funny.

During WW2 Japan wanted pick off US bomber pilots with an idea that isn’t too bad. Camouflage specialists began painting imitations of an enemy plane (or planes) on the ground and even added details of smoke trails. The purpose of this was to give the impression of a stricten comrade and lure the enemy down to offer assistance. However, the idea NEVER worked. As to why I can only guess.

Perhaps the American pilots couldn’t be fooled by the ruse or maybe they just didn’t notice at all. :iconderpfaceplz:

At that stage in the war it was never really taken seriously, my grandpa was a fighter pilot who flew with the bombers in the pacific campaign, he told me- "well at that stage of the war the Japanese Air Force was pretty much obliterated save for the kamikazes, and even flak fire never really did much to a bomber if it didn't hit an engine or maybe the tail, so we just ignored it for the most part, given the fact that virtually none of our planes we're shot down at the time we put two and two together."
