A historical joke inspired by Sarah Palin. It’s just what we Americans do before an attack… we give the enemy a warning with firing gunshots and ringing bells.

Then Colbert goes on to share how this American tradition of ringing bells and warning shots have been kept out of our history books for far too long. General Eisenhower (Supreme Commander in WW2) did the same with Hitler by knocking on his door and saying, "Hey Adolf, we're landing at Normandy. Here's a warning shot, DING DONG you !@#$%!" Then on D-Day the troops had large cowbells around their necks while storming the beach.
