Paul Revere -11 by andrielisilien Paul Revere -11 by andrielisilien
It is far past your bedtime, young man. :iconultraangryplz: Now SCRAM!!

A historical joke inspired by Sarah Palin. It’s just what we Americans do before an attack… we give the enemy a warning with firing gunshots and ringing bells.

This video explains it all --> [link]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: Apparently a few of my viewers are from Britain and can't get access to the video. I haven't been able to find the entire clip on youtube, only bits and parts. You may choose to watch these if you so please despite the suggestion the block gives on your webpage.

Here's the first half dealing with Sarah Palin [link]

Then Colbert goes on to share how this American tradition of ringing bells and warning shots have been kept out of our history books for far too long. General Eisenhower (Supreme Commander in WW2) did the same with Hitler by knocking on his door and saying, "Hey Adolf, we're landing at Normandy. Here's a warning shot, DING DONG you !@#$%!" Then on D-Day the troops had large cowbells around their necks while storming the beach.

Last but not least, comes the "historical reenactment" that Colbert performs. You can watch here starting at about 0:55 [link]

I think Palin became a politician only for her pretty smiling face.

Did you know that Paul Revere DIDN'T say "The British are coming!"? Because everybody at the time was British. Instead, he said "The regulars are coming".

Turns out in your link, people from Great Britain get a message almost literally saying; "Sorry, but people from the UK can't watch our videos. Please don't send redcoats in retaliation this time". Nice to see a sense of humour there!

Haha this is cute and funny.

That clip is too much fun xD "PREPARE TO EAT HISTORICAL REENACTMENT"

Poor Sarah Palin makes so many mistakes sometimes. :P She seems well-meaning, but still... -_-;

This was all so historically incorrect xD I love it.

And I just watched the clips. Uh...what was that, I don't even...okay. The bit about warning the Americans, so far so good (still drawing more off the poem than actual history, but whatever), and then the next bit about warning the British....

O_O Um...yeah. You CAN argue that, but it's really rather convoluted logic.

Um...I'm currently learning on it as I'm writing a fanfic about it. So...I'd say I know more than what you might expect from a Canadian, but not nearly as much as the average American.

As for my last comment, well...I know that Paul Revere never rode along screaming, "The British are coming! The British are coming!" That would be more than a few shades of suicidal, in my opinion. I know the warning was actually given more quietly than that, that there were other riders invovled, that it all had to do with the British plans to seize the arms compiled at Concord...things like that. As for why I think it could still be a warning to the British and their sympathizers...let's just say that the events of the next morning at Lexington and Concord would probably serve as quite the wake-up call to any Loyalists in that part of Massachusetts that things are now going to get a LOT more violent.

Alright, I just wasn't sure and if you got the sarcastic humor based on Palin's remark.

I probably WON'T get it as much as you would, but I did get some enjoyment out of watching the "re-enactment" - you know it's near impossible to reload a musket one-handed, right? ;)
